| Francisco Cota Fagundes was born in Terceira, Azores. He attended UCLA where he earned a double B.A. in Spanish and Portuguese (summa cum laude) (1972), an M.A. in Luso-Brazilian Studies (1974), and a PhD in Hispanic Languages and Literatures (1976). Some of his authored, edited and co-edited, translated and co-translated books include Oral and Written Narratives and Cultural Identity: Interdisciplinary Approaches (2007); Vitorino Nemésio and the Azores Special issue of Portuguese Literary & Cultural Studies (2007); Narrativas em Metamorfose: Abordagens Interdisciplinares (forthcoming), Hard Knocks: An Azorean-American Odyssey (Memoir), (2003); Desta e da Outra Margem do Atlântico: Estudos de Literatura Açoriana e da Diáspora. (2003); Tudo Isto que Rodeia Jorge de Sena: An International Colloquium (2004); Um Passo Mais no Português Moderno: Gramática Avançada, Leituras, Composição e Conversação. (2004); Metamorfoses do Amor: Estudos sobre a Ficção Breve de Jorge de Sena (2000); Para Emergir NascemosÉ: Estudos em Rememoração de Jorge de Sena (2000). He is also the author of approximately 60 articles published in specialized reviews in the U.S., England, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Brazil, etc. Main areas of current research include the interrelations of the arts; modern poetry; Portuguese-language short fiction; literary representations of orality and storytelling. He has received, from the President of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio, the Comenda do Infante D. Henrique for services rendered in the dissemination of Portuguese language and culture in the United States. | |||||
Irene Maria F. Blayer was born in São Jorge, Azores. She studied at the University of Toronto, Canada, where she earned a Ph.D. (1992) in Romance Linguistics. She is a Full Professor at Brock University, Canada. Some of her recent book publications include Oral and Written Narratives and Cultural Identity: Interdisciplinary Approaches (2007); Narrativas em Metamorfose: Abordagens Interdisciplinares (forthcoming), Interdisciplinary Cross-Cultural Works in North America (2005); Latin American Narratives and Cultural Identity: Selected Readings (2004); Storytelling: Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Perspectives (2002). Her articles appear in international academic journals, and as refereed book chapters. She is on the editorial board of a number of academic journals, is a member of university committees and associations. In 2001 she was elected to the Senate of the University, and in 2006 nominated to the Governance Committee. | ||||||
